Little Beagle's Blog :: Holiday Leftovers for Pets

We don't have human children.... yet. So, Lexie is pretty much the light of our life at this point. So, I thought this blog wouldn't be complete without her input! So I will let her weigh in every once in awhile :)

**********

Thanksgiving has come and gone & Christmas is just around the corner. We all know that us doggies love holiday scraps but it's important for doggie Mommy's & Daddy's to know what's good & bad for us poochies. All of the information below was found here.

It's tempting to make us a plate & let us share in the festivities (and believe me, we want you too!) but it's important to know a few things that are just bad news.

1. Avoid stuff that will upset our stomach. All pets digestive systems are different. Pay attention to past sensitives and plan accordingly.

2. Don't overwhelm us with a bunch of new things at once. We shouldn't be used to eating so much human foods at once, so be gentle on us!

3. Nothing with onions or other alliums (garlic, leeks, scallions) Small well cooked portions of these things may be okay but large quantities can lead to toxic anemia - BAD NEWS!

4. No Chocolate! I think this is a given - baking chocolate is especially toxic.

5. No grapes or raisins. These can cause kidney failure in dogs. Mostly in large quantities over time but no need to risk it! Especially during the Holidays!

6. No xylitol. This is a common sugar substitute - common with cooking for diabetics. It is DEADLY to dogs.

7. No macadamia nuts. Just not recommended.

8. No alcohol. DUH!

Here is a list of super yummy stuff we love & it's 100% a-okay for us!

1. Turkey. Make sure and remove all fat & skin!

2. Mashed Potatoes. No extra ingredients!

3. Cranberry Sauce. Small portions only, it can have a lot of sugar!

4. Macaroni & Cheese. It's better for us without the cheese, but where's the fun in that!!?!???

5. Green Beans. NOT green bean casserole.

Happy Holidays!

WOOF!
